Yanmar 240 (second series) brochure and 1979 price list

Also  brochure illustrating earlier first-series YM240, about 1970-1975

YM240 was the U.S. version of the popular Yanmar YM2000 sold in Japan. The engine is rated 24 hp with 20 hp at the pto. Changes for the American market were minor, for example there is an overrun coupler inside the YM240 pto. English-language service and parts manuals were provided to American Yanmar dealers.  Used YM2000's continue to be a popular gray market import today since there seems to be an endless supply in good condition and there is excellent parts availability here.

Near the end of the YM240 era John Deere contracted Yanmar to build JD 650, 750, 850's to become Deere's Compact and Utility lines.  I like to think that Deere was impressed by the quality of Yanmar tractors, including YM240, that were in service in the U.S. at the time they made this decision.

Yanmar today continues to be a principal engine supplier to John Deere.
